Food Export Association of the Midwest USA (Food Export-Midwest) and Food
Export USA-Northeast (Food Export-Northeast) are seeking individuals/companies to join a network of subject matter experts to assist with the following:

  1. Provide advice on a variety of technical topics related to the process of exporting
    food and agricultural products including but not limited to: compliance on export
    regulations practices, international shipping and logistics, label and package
    modifications required for exporting, export finance, and international intellectual
    property etc.
  2. Work with Food Export staff and participate in designing and developing
    educational resources to transfer such technical expertise to Food Export-Midwest, Food Export-Northeast, USA-based suppliers, its members, and other
    stakeholders.

The contractor will work closely with and be supervised by the appropriate International Marketing Program Manager. The selected Contractor(s) will be responsible for the aforementioned activities during our 2025 Program Year to December 31, 2025.

The deadline for the first phase of proposals is 12:00 noon ET on Wednesday, June 4th, 2025.

Food Export Association of the Midwest USA is a non-profit organization that promotes the export of food and agricultural products from the Midwest region of the US. The organization has been helping exporters of Midwest food and agricultural products sell their products overseas since 1969, when it was first created as a cooperative effort between 13 Midwest state agricultural promotion agencies and the United States Department of Agriculture’s Foreign Agricultural Service (FAS). 

Food Export USA – Northeast is a private, non-profit trade association of Northeast state agricultural promotion agencies. Our mission is the development and expansion of international markets for U.S. food and value-added agricultural products. We participate in the Market Access Program (MAP) of the Foreign Agricultural Service of USDA.

Job Summary:

The International Marketing Program Intern is responsible for assisting and supporting Food Export – Midwest & Northeast program staff with implementing and tracking International Marketing programs and services. The intern will assist with the preparation, coordination, and follow-up for programs and events, such as Buyers Missions at U.S. trade shows, Focused Trade Missions, international trade shows, educational programming, and market research.

This position fully embodies the Mission and Vision by Simplifying Success, Enriching Exchange, and Realizing Resources. The International Marketing Program Intern demonstrates commitment to the established Values; Cultivating Global Relationships, Rooted in Trust, and Producing Results.

Responsibilities:

  • Tracking company inquiries, participation, and evaluations in the database.  Information will be used to evaluate performance and market programs and services to appropriate groups.
  • Researching company contact information including website, email, and mailing addresses to ensure information is up to date and to reach more companies that are eligible for Food Export’s programs and services.
  • Contacting companies via phone to collect evaluations as follow-up from Food Export – Midwest & Northeast activities.
  • Assisting Food Export-Midwest & Northeast staff with writing success stories about small and medium size food and agricultural exporters that have participated in our programs and services.
  • Preparing and sending materials for foreign buyers and U.S. exporters who participate in Food Export – Midwest & Northeast activities.
  • Provides administrative support to the International Marketing Program team, including organizing files, scheduling meetings, and taking meeting notes.
  • Undertaking special research and other projects and tasks as directed by Food Export – Midwest & Northeast staff

Skills:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer/client service skills. – Required to have
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to be flexible and adaptable in a dynamic team environment.

Technical Skills:

Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.

Education and Experience:

Current Undergraduate or Graduate student

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.

About the Role:
In this client-facing role, you’ll be the go-to resource for U.S. suppliers interested in exporting. You’ll connect companies to our programs, guide them through the onboarding process, and help them map out their global growth strategy. From prospecting and outreach to customer relationship management and market research, you’ll play a key role in enriching international exchange.

What You’ll Do:

  • Conduct outreach to identify and engage new participant companies.
  • Work with seasoned exporters to explore new opportunities and markets.
  • Guide participants in creating annual export marketing plans.
  • Deliver exceptional customer service and program support.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and partner organizations to ensure program success.
  • Represent Food Export at industry events and conferences.

What You Bring:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in sales, recruitment, or customer-facing roles preferred.
  • Strong communication, organization, and relationship-building skills.
  • Experience with CRM systems and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Knowledge of international marketing, trade, or the food/agriculture industry is a plus.
